Mi cocina no contamina: used cooking oil collection for biodiesel in Mexico City

Description
Urban circular economy program that collects used cooking oil waste (RAUC) from public markets, restaurants and households in Mexico City and transforms it into biodiesel/bioadditives at the Bioadditives Plant of the Central de Abasto, to fuel clean public transport. It operates through Sedema with collection points in 65 markets and boroughs; in the Cuauhtémoc borough, with technical support from Fundación Kolibrie Energy, 35 containers collect 370 liters per day, produce 11,000 liters of biodiesel per month and prevent the contamination of 440 million liters of water monthly. The original pilot in markets was documented academically by Sheinbaum et al. (2015).
