Description
Community recycling centre in Watamu created by the NGO Watamu Marine Association as a local response to marine plastic pollution. It runs a buy-back scheme with women's and youth groups who collect plastic from the beaches, upcycles it into construction materials and curios, and links coastal clean-up with tourism and the conservation of the Marine Protected Area.
