Description

Association of Afro-Colombian women shellfish gatherers (piangüeras) from San Andrés de Tumaco (approx. 45 women aged 27 to 70) that combines sustainable piangua harvesting with the ecological restoration of the mangroves of the Nariño Pacific coast. They practice community-based restoration (Community Based Ecological Mangrove Restoration) grounded in ancestral knowledge of patch rotation and reinforced with reforestation: they have planted mangrove seedlings to recover the estuaries on which their food and income depend. It is community-based climate adaptation with a gender focus and a solidarity economy approach.
