Description
Cooperative ecovillage in Boekel (North Brabant) of 36 circular social homes, inhabited by some 43 adults and 14 children, designed and built by the residents themselves. It collects and filters rainwater (tanks per circle of ~10 m3, ~400 m3 per year) to flush toilets and run washing machines, saving ~40% of drinking water; treats black and grey water with helophyte filters; and has piloted, with the UvA and NIOO-KNAW, a system to recover nutrients from toilet water using microalgae to produce fertilizer.
