Description
Grassroots organization founded in 2010 in Bengaluru, Karnataka, by Nalini Shekar and Anslem Rosario to organize the city's waste pickers. It secures government occupational identity cards for waste pickers, integrates them into the municipal system and operates dozens of Dry Waste Collection Centres (DWCC) run by waste picker-entrepreneurs (85+ DWCCs). A study with WIEGO calculated the CO2 emissions avoided by the DWCCs. In 2015 it spun off Hasiru Dala Innovations, a 'for-purpose' inclusive circularity company co-founded by Nalini Shekar and Marwan Abubaker, with Shekar Prabhakar as CEO.
