Description
PMUY is a flagship program of the government of India launched in 2016 by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to provide access to LPG as a clean cooking fuel for marginalized households, delivering subsidized connections in the name of women from below-poverty-line families. It seeks to reduce indoor air pollution from solid fuels. Evaluations report improvements in health and women's empowerment, but also barriers: sustained LPG use is limited to brief cooking and the cost of refills restricts continuous use.
