Description

Multidisciplinary consulting group based in Tepoztlán, Morelos, specialized in decentralized ecological sanitation (ecosan) with a participatory approach. It drove the TepozEco urban pilot project (2003-2006) and brought school ecological sanitation (composting toilets and urine-diverting dry toilets, sand filters for greywater) to schools in Morelos and the Sierra de Oaxaca. Its SARAR method empowers communities to plan, implement and monitor their own systems.

Lessons learned

School ecological sanitation works when the community decides and operates; the top-down approach fails. Appropriate technology and local autonomy are conditions for adoption. Documented project activity runs up to 2019; with no clear public signal of new projects afterwards and beyond the 24-month threshold, it is marked paused: the organization and its site remain online, but no recent implementation was confirmed.
