IMC Weekendschool (ToekomstExpeditie)

Complementary Sunday school for children aged 10 to 14 in neighborhoods with fewer opportunities, founded in 1998 in Amsterdam Zuidoost by psychologist Heleen Terwijn after her longitudinal research on school motivation in the Bijlmer.

01 The context

Volunteer professionals teach their trade: medicine, law, journalism, art. Today it operates weekendscholen in several cities, the IMC Basis program inside primary schools and an alumni network; the concept was renamed ToekomstExpeditie. Its effects are continuously researched with UvA, HvA, VU Brussels, UU and Ruigrok.
