Guajira Azul - public standpipe model for dispersed Wayuu populationProgram of the Ministry of Housing (vice-ministry of Water and Basic Sanitation) that implements a water distribution model for dispersed rural population in La Guajira through public standpipe modules adapted to Wayuu customs. Each module captures, treats and distributes drinking water to dozens of communities. It introduced specialized operators for urban service provision in seven municipalities, built 10 rainwater reservoirs for rural Wayuu communities, and expanded micrometering and quality monitoring. It benefited ~409,160 urban residents with water and ~362,131 with sanitation; it reduced rural water hauling time from more than 5 hours to less than 1 hour. The PDA pilot proved replicable and was scaled to all 32 departments.
