Description

Network of low-cost schools founded in Kibera, Nairobi, in 2009, today part of the NewGlobe group. Highly standardized model: scripted lessons delivered to teachers via tablets, daily monitoring and centralized management. It operates in 30 of the 47 counties. A lottery-based RCT (~10,000 scholarship recipients out of ~25,000 applicants; Gray-Lobe, Keats, Kremer, Mbiti and Ozier) found gains among the largest in the literature (0.89 extra equivalent years in primary, 1.48 in pre-primary), although civil society organizations question the model and its labor conditions.
