Emerging from the KKPKP union (founded 1993), SWaCH began as a pilot in 2005 and was formally registered as a workers' cooperative in 2008 to institutionalize door-to-door collection. It provides collection and at-source segregation under contract with the Pune Municipal Corporation. Recovered materials are reintegrated into recycling chains, formalizing waste pickers as service providers with wages, protective equipment and an occupational identity. It is the largest waste picker-led cooperative in the world.Ambikapur SLRM model (Solid and Liquid Resource Management)Decentralized waste management system in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, operated by women's self-help groups (SHGs) recruited through the National Urban Livelihood Mission. Some 470-480 women organized into 34 SHGs collect door to door, segregate waste the same day into more than 100 subcategories at 17-19 SLRM centres, sell recyclables and compost, and send non-recoverable waste to cement plants as fuel. Ambikapur became one of the first cities in India with a zero-waste landfill; the model was launched around 2015-2016 and the former dumpsite was turned into a park in 2016.Hasiru Dala (waste picker integration and dry waste centres, Bengaluru)Grassroots organization founded in 2010 in Bengaluru, Karnataka, by Nalini Shekar and Anslem Rosario to organize the city's waste pickers.
